Momentary Ink - Try It On Before You Tat It On

Emmanuel Ureña on Jan 12th 2016

You know how before you buy a nice blouse or some jaw-dropping heels you get the opportunity to try them on before fully committing to buying them? What would you say if you were given a similar trial period with a tattoo? That’s right! Someone has found a way for you to try on your tattoo before you actually get it done.

Momentary Ink—a Philadelphia-based startup company—has created a way for those of you who are thinking of getting tattooed but are a bit shaky about their permanence. Momentary Ink creates custom-made temporary ink designs that look and “feel” like real tattoos. According to their website, www.momentaryink.com, you can either upload an image of the tattoo you’d like a replicated, create your own designs, or you can take it a step further and have one of Momentary Ink’s in-house artists design the tattoo for you.

After you’re satisfied with your design, Momentary Ink ships the replica to you which then you can apply with either water—similarly to the tattoos you get from gum ball machines—or you can use their “secret solution” to apply the tattoo. As we mentioned before, though, the nontoxic, waterproof tattoos are just for a test drive, so they only last between three to ten days—depending on where you place the tattoo and how much friction that part of your body experiences throughout the day.

Pricing for these temp tats may vary depending on the size of the tattoo. Tattoos up to 3 inches run between $15-$18, and tattoos between 8-10 inches will run you somewhere between $25-$30. Prices for using their in-house tattoo artists will also be based on the size of the tattoo and the amount of detail you want on it.

We know what you’re probably thinking by now: “So what? Temporary tattoos aren’t anything new.” And, you’re right, but Momentary Ink’s founder, Jordan Denny, says that what makes his product standout from all the rest is Momentary Ink designs’ realistic features and the lack of that shiny, wet look that other temp tats have. Denny says this is all due to their “secret solution” which took over 50 different combinations of ingredients and products to concoct.

To date, the largest faux tat that Momentary Ink has produced is a 3-foot long floral design, which stretched from the client’s upper back, wrapped around to her chest and reached down to her pelvis. Now, that’s extensive! And, that’s what Momentary Ink’s mission is all about.

“When it comes to the type of tattoos that people are getting today, it’s a lot harder to visualize and get on the paper exactly what you’re thinking.” Denny said in an interview with Mashable. “We allow them to really visualize what this thing is going to look like as an exact replica before they get it done.”
