When we started Controse, we wanted to make rugged, good looking jewelry for active people, with substantial heft and feel. 

We wanted to make it unique--to represent strength, freedom, and independence. But we also wanted to make it affordable. We could have executed our massive, bold designs in gold or sterling silver, but the amount of metal in each piece would have priced them way out of reach for many people.

The solution for us was 316L stainless steel. This material is tougher than gold or silver, is non-allergenic because of its low nickel content, and is very affordable. 

It is also made from recycled materials, using low-energy manufacturing processes, so it's good for the environment too.
