Shinji Nakaba’s Precious Pearl Skulls

As if being a rock star couldn’t get any more glamorous—check out these awesome pieces by Japanese jewelry designer, Shinji Nakaba. As part of his Vanitas collection, Nakaba takes the “morbid yet beautiful”style a step further to create these awe-inspiring, hand-crafted, mini skulls carved out of genuine pearls.
By intricately hand-carving skulls’facial features onto pearls, Nakaba has created these beautifully crafted pieces that can be made part of jewelry pieces like necklaces, rings, bracelets and other accessories. We know a lot of you Controse fans are crazy about cats, so it would please you to know that the skilled jeweler also included cat skull designs as part of the collection.
Pearl skulls aren’t the only eye-catching pieces Nakaba has created, though. Taking the saying, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure,”to heart, Nakaba—who has been creating jewelry since the ‘70s—is also known for taking items commonly found in garbage and recycling bins and turning them into “wearable sculptures.”In the past, he has used everything from precious metals and stones to everyday items like beer cans, plastic bottles, and otherwise discarded materials, according to Nakaba’s Etsy page
